Piano said "square", of against. In molded walnut and walnut veneer leaves and fillets of blond wood, on legs with simulated flutes, topped with inlaid medallions, and finished with bronze shoes. The lid is hinged and divides at the front into two small hinged lids, one with a double evolution, revealing the keyboard and the side of the strings. Signed "Kyburz Fecit Bern in der Schweiz" and dated 1785 in an oval medallion topped by a musical trophy held by a bow, framed by garlands of leaves, inlaid. Without pedals. H. : 78,5 cm - W. : 115 cm - D. : 47,5 cm. Restorations and modifications to the legs; the bottom of the piano's case is warped; stains on the keyboard; some cracks; rubbing, scratches and small shocks from use. Georg Adam KYBURZ (c. 1745-1801), piano maker active in Bern at the end of the 18th century. Several of his square pianos dated between 1786 and 1796 are known to be in private collections or museums in Switzerland. Ours seems to date from the beginning of his known production. The "square" piano differs from the pianoforte by its horizontal strings arranged diagonally on the rectangular case above the hammers and with the keyboard set on the long side.
