Georges Van der Straeten, a student of Jef Lambeaux, worked in Paris from 1883. He specialized in the friendly representation of Parisian women in the spirit of the Belle Époque, which was then in vogue in the capital. He was awarded a silver medal at the 1900 Universal Exhibition. Two works by this artist can be found in the famous Van Herck collection acquired by the King Baudouin Foundation in 1997.
