Untitled (The boat cemetery of Guilvinec, Finistère)
Oil on canvas, signed upper right
H_60 cm - W_73 cm
(frame)
Provenance : Galerie Ducastel, Avignon
During the years 1963 to 1973, Ibrahim Shahda painted several times in the port of Guilvinec-Léchiagat, in particular the boat cemetery. On February 13, 1966, he wrote to the painter Paul Surtel: "Today at the end of the day I went for a walk in the marine cemetery, it is a place dear to my heart, for it is there that I find myself quite at peace and perhaps there is something that resembles me there, these ruined boats, gnawed, old, badly put together and lying in all directions in this gray and pure space.
We thank the widow of the artist, Mrs. Anita SHAHDA, for the precious information she gave us about this work.
