Georg Baselitz, Forest path. 1974. Oil on canvas. Signed and dated lower right. 190 x 97 cm (74.8 x 38.1 in). [SM]. - In 1969, Georg Baselitz painted a pictorial motif rotated 180 degrees on canvas for the first time with "Der Wald auf dem Kopf," now in the Museum Ludwig, Cologne. - Works from the series of "finger paintings" such as "Waldweg" (1974) are extremely rare and fetch top prices on the international auction market. - In 2021, Georg Baselitz will donate six portraits from the late 1960s to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, which will be shown in a solo exhibition to mark the occasion. - The Centre Pompidou in Paris will dedicate a comprehensive retrospective to Georg Baselitz this year (October 2021 to March 2022). - A personal gift from Baselitz to his artist friend A.
