- Well-known provenance besides Hermann Gerlinger- Wilhelm Niemeyer publishes the important expressionist magazine Kündung together with Rosa Schapire, he is a passive bridge member and early Schmidt-Rottluff collector.
- The theme of nudity in Schmidt-Rottluff's work reaches a climax with the format-filling nude figures of the "Idle Hetheares" of 1914
- In ancient times, hetaeras were respected prostitutes who indulged in music-making and dancing.
