Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Self-portrait with model. 1910. Colored chalk drawing. Signed lower right. Verso titled "painter and model". There with the estate stamp of the Kunstmuseum Basel (Lugt 1570 b) and the handwritten numbering "FS Dre/Bi 7". On strong, brownish cardboard. 59.8 x 49.1 cm (23.5 x 19.3 in), sheet size. [CH]. - Particularly elaborate and intensely colored self-portrait from the best "Brücke" period. - In this size, quality and colorfulness of the utmost rarity and museum quality. - Self-confident staging as a painter genius of German Expressionism. - This work shows the immediate, clearly more original and freer pictorial idea than the subsequently reworked painting in the collection of the Hamburger Kunsthalle (Gordon 121, 1910/1926). - Selected in 1991 for the cover of the exhibition catalog and for the exhibition poster of the comprehensive Kirchner retrospective at the Kunsthalle Nuremberg.
