BAUDELAIRE Charles (1821-1867)
Autograph letter signed to Maître Ancelle, (s.l.) [Brussels], 1 January 1866. 1 p. in-8. Presence of 4 small pieces of paper at the side margins.
Letter written the day of his nervous crisis which left him very weakened. He evokes as often questions of money, hesitates to buy a watch and speaks about Julien Lemer (1815-1893). He writes "I am ashamed to torment you like this. But remember my Reasoning (the 13th month, thing sold), and we start the 14th. It is my fault, I listened to you too late. For a few days I have been fighting the urge to build a clock with the remains of your 100 fr. Perhaps you insist on seeing J. Lemer in order to answer me at the same time on my two requests?
Letter published in Baudelaire Correspondance, Tome II, Bibliothèque de la Pléiade, p 561.
