In 1919, the collector Jean Charpentier acquired the mansion at 76, rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré in Paris built in 1802 by the Count of Orglandes. From then on, the mansion became a place mainly for exhibitions, the first of which was dedicated to Théodore Géricault in 1924. Until 1966, under the direction of Maurice Deltour and then Raymond Nacenta, the Jean Charpentier Gallery hosted internationally renowned 20th century artists and major cultural events that ensured its primacy in the post-war Parisian art market.
