Paul GAUGUIN (1848-1903) MARURU. 1893-94. Wood engraving in black with two tones of orange and yellow colors.very nice proof on Japon from the Roy edition of about 25 or 30 copies. Minimal traces of folds, needle holes in the upper edge, slight rubbing on the surface, trace of black inking on the reverse. Margins about 0.5 cm. This book is said to have been offered by Dr. Victor Ségalen on his return from Tahiti in 1905, after two years as a medical officer on the "Zélée", a French Navy ship in Oceania.
