The work is offered in a decorative gold frame attributable to Johann Friedrich I Funk (1706-1775).
The depicted scene goes back to a contemporary print work with the inaccurate reference to Adriaen Brouwer as inventor. A comparable composition is also known from a painting by Gabriel Metsu (1629-1667).
