Valdo Barbey learned painting in his native country from Eugène Burnand, a major figure in naturalist painting. He left his native Switzerland for France where he entered the Beaux-Arts de Paris. He trained in the workshops of Georges Desvallières and Jean-Paul Laurens. Thereafter, he works both in painting, illustration and distinguishes himself in the scenography by realizing sets for the Paris Opera or the theater. He exhibited regularly at numerous salons from 1906 onwards and in prestigious galleries such as the Georges Petit Gallery. He painted many views of harbors and Mediterranean landscapes, nourished by his various trips.
