Artine (Paris, Éditions surréalistes, chez José Corti, 1930); in-4, frontispiece, 20 leaves, paperback, modern black morocco slipcase, paper covers illustrated with abstract motifs, black suede lining. First edition of this collection of poems by René Char, copy of Salvador Dali, author of the frontispiece. Artine is dedicated "To the silence of the one who leaves dreamer". "Artine is made of several characters in superimposition, which represent all "the imponderable being", the beautiful unknown that one did not wait, the fascinating star, of which one cannot detach the eyes [...] It is a continuation of oneiric tables which borrow to the dream its blur, its discontinuity. But the elements that bring the poem closer to the dream itself abound" (Jean Voellmy, René Char, ou le mystère partagé, 1989, p. 18). One of two offprints on old Japan, numbered and signed by the author, the only ones, with the first 30, to be illustrated with the original engraving by Salvador DALÍ. Personal copy of Dali with this autograph sending: " to Salvador Dali/ his friend by any/ time./René Char ". René Char had only joined the Surrealist group in 1929 and it was after a stay with Dalí that he published this collection. The other copy was the one reserved for the publisher José Corti. A perfectly preserved copy, despite some light foxing on the cover.
