Printed, partly handwritten, on the letterhead "LE BARON D'EMPIRE, L'UN DES COMMANDANS DE LA LEGION D'HONNEUR, MAITRE DES REQUETES, INTENDANT DE L'INTERIEUR EN HOLLANDE" (from Alphonse). Done on May 11, 1812 in Amsterdam. -Letter of nomination as knight of the order in the name of Jean Marie Varlet (1775-1857), battalion commander of the fusiliers chasseurs of the Imperial Guard. Printed, partly handwritten, signed by the major general of the Grande Armée, Marshal BERTHIER. Done in Dresden on September 14, 1813. B.E.
