NAPOLEON I. Apostille signed "Np" (3 lines) on a signed piece with 3 autograph lines to Jean-Baptiste Eblé entitled "Nouvelle organisation des équipages de ponts" (2 pp. in-folio). Vitebsk, August 10, 1812. General Eblé established a state in personnel and material of the "crew of mobile boats", then of the "crew for raft decks", and finally of what "it will remain in Witebsk". To which are added "Notes collected on the navigation of the Dvina from Witebsk to Riga". The emperor has written in the margin: "Referred to the major-general [Louis-Alexandre Berthier], approved..." IT WAS GENERAL EBLE'S PONTOON BOATS THAT ALLOWED THE PASSAGES OF THE NIEMEN IN JUNE AND THE BEREZINA IN NOVEMBER. He himself died of exhaustion in Königsberg in December.
