Georges BRAQUE (1882-1963). Glaucos - 1963. Sculpture in gilded bronze and amethyst. Emerald eye. Franck Dalla Santa founder (post mortem). Signed and numbered 5/8 on the fin. H : 27 ; W : 73 ; D : 8 cm. Note: At the end of his life, Braque wanted to give a third dimension to his painting. For this purpose, he contacted Baron Heger of Löwenfeld, a master lapidary, to create pieces that would become for Malraux "the Apotheosis of Braque". Their collaboration began in 1961. Glaucos is realized in 1963. It is a spectacular sculpture that consists of a block of fifty kilos of amethyst. Several editions in different sizes were then made. This sculpture remains Braque's best known and has been exhibited many times around the world.
