GENET (Jean) Le Balcon. 1 vol. in-12 square paperback. Décines Barbezat 1960 (2nd ed.) " Le Balcon " is a play written by Jean GENET in 1956 and premiered on May 18, 1960 at the Théâtre du Gymnase in a production by Peter Brook. On the cover of the book, in pencil, it is written " M. FRECHTMAN - King Georges Hotel ". Bernard Frechtman was Genet's agent and translator. This play takes place in a city brothel during a revolt. The bishop, the judge and the general take turns to reveal their secret perversions. Attached is a handwritten note probably by Jean Genet, unsigned, stamped Théâtre du Gymnase - Direction de la scène... "Indications - The brothel is an extremely modest place. No striptease. No codswallowing of the ass. No playing with tits ... For the rest I don't give a damn". This note is addressed to Frechtman. The work is annotated in the margins and especially many passages are crossed out. Copy having been used for the staging of the play.
