CELINE (Louis-Ferdinand) Mort à crédit. 1 large vol. in-8 paperback, printed cover, filled in publisher's case and slipcase. Paris Denoël et Steele 1936. First edition of Céline's 2nd novel, dedicated to Lucien Descaves [of the Académie Goncourt]. There were 1012 numbered copies of this work, this one of the 30 copies Hors-Commerce on Hollande (n° XLV). E.A.S. to Marie Bell " To Mademoiselle la Grande Artiste Marie Belle [sic] the admirable interpreter of the French. Kind regards. LF Celine ". Very nice copy, uncut. The initial title of the work was "L'Adieu à Molitor". The violence of the story, the slang expressions, the neologisms, the numerous ... [suspension points], provoked the ire of the Press. Also, at the request of the publishers, Céline deleted several sentences from his book. These have not been replaced. They appear as blanks in the book. Only the non-commercial copies contain the full text. However, the "editors' notice" about the blanks has not been removed from the non-commercial copies. The complete version will only be published in 1981 in the Pléiade. Our uncensored copy is the first large paper after the 22 copies on Japon Impérial. In mint condition. Uncut.
