He would have to be very ungrateful to forget the kindnesses with which he was showered in Lausanne. "I always see this lake so quiet, these mountains and this little garden where I was sure to find a person, so kind to me, my guide, my companion in solitude and walks. Mde de Ch. shares all my regrets: she has written to you and to Mlle Constant [...]. When I left Lausanne I felt too much pain not to have said to myself that I would come back. I looked at your window; I would have liked to say good day to you again and not farewell: you know that I hate this word "never" which fits so badly with this short human nature"... He asks for a letter, and news of the great concert. He was "charmed by Berne, and especially by the view that you recommended to me. [...] How is the Canard doing?
