H. 26 in
Provenance:
- Former Jacques Kerchache collection, before 1988.
Marcel Griaule, in his book devoted to Dogon masks in 1963, describes with precision this type of Gomintogo mask, and the way it is shown: "The dance is performed to the albarga rhythm, (...) The wearer is equipped with a stick with which he scratches the ground. From time to time, he makes the gesture of pulling up weeds." Representing a kind of deer, the mask is formed by a rectangular face pierced by two square eyes. Two large, forward-curved palms surmount the face. The small ears are sculpted on either side of the face.
