A fundamental element of Dogon culture, the mask plays an important role during dances. This beautiful and large example of a Sirige level house mask is composed of a rectangular face serving as a base and a long elongated form sculpted with a clerestory. This one represents a multi-storey house reserved for the chiefs. The height of this type of mask depends on the tree from which it was carved.
