The Tlingit are a native people of Southeast Alaska: it is in this region that their artistic production reaches its peak. Exclusively used by shamans, this spherical rattle has the particularity of being sculpted on both sides. Filled with pebbles, it produced a distinctive sound and was an integral part of the ceremony. This Janus specimen has two sides representing a grimacing face. Beautiful green, red, black and white pigments underline the expressions of this face, of which we do not know which spirit it represents with confidence (otter, human?). The handle has a beautiful patina of use.
