Bamoun Headdress, Cameroon

Probably masculine, this Bamoun crest bears a three-lobed headdress reserved for sovereigns. It rests on a basketry cone that allows it to be placed on top of the head. The oval-shaped head has large circular eyes highlighted by prominent cheekbones. The eyes meet on either side of a wide, straight nose. The mouth opens onto a row of finely sculpted teeth. The expression of the face and the vigor of the features make this crest a strong testimony to the art of Cameroon.
