Bembe Biteki figure, Democratic Republic of the Congo Wood, beautiful light brown glossy patina, porcelain H. 17, 5 cm Bembe Biteki figure, Democratic Republic of the Congo H. 6 7/8 in Provenance : - Former Bertrand Goy collection Portrait of a hunting ancestor, standing with a rifle in his left hand and a knife in his right hand. The headdress, the eyes enhanced with white porcelain, the triangular beard and the ventral keloids are characteristic of the Bembe style. A cavity dug at the bottom of the figure's loins to hold a magical charge in the past attests to the ritual nature of the sculpture.
