The figure of the hornbill is a recurrent theme in the statuary of the Sénoufo, a symbol of fertility, and is one of the primordial animals of their pantheon. While its head with its characteristic beak frequently adorns the stirrups of looms in the region, its wings are rarely represented. The wear at the points of contact between the spool and the stirrup and its rich patina testify to its great antiquity.
