Bird mask
Dan people
Ivory Coast
Wood
H. 32 cm
Provenance :
Collected in situ by Mr. Begué between 1931 and 1935
Dan anthropo-zoomorphic mask from the Ivory Coast evoking the hornbill with its long stylized beak. The bulging forehead and round eyes are reminiscent of racing masks from the same region. The whole is very graphic and harmonious despite the somewhat damaged condition on the left part of the face. Nice age. The inner patina of the mask testifies to its repeated use.
