François Meuret had a very long career as a miniaturist, since he started working in 1819. He is known as the painter of the celebrities of the Second Empire. A student of Louis
François Aubry, he exhibited at the Salon between 1822 and 1852. From 1842, he was the official painter of Louis-Philippe, for whom he painted many family portraits, mostly after
Winterhalter.
