[SURREALIST GAME]. André BRETON, Wifredo LAM, Victor BRAUNER and Jacques HÉROLD. Collective drawings. Marseilles, at the Café du Brûleur de Loups, January 9, 1941.
24 original ink drawings with watercolour or grease pencil highlights on 6 cardboard index cards
(142 x 123 mm); caption and dating in Victor Brauner's hand on the verso of two sheets.
Collection of twenty-four original drawings on six sheets of strong paper executed in Marseilles at the Café du Brûleur de Loups on January 9, 1941.
On the back of two sheets, a caption in Victor Brauner's hand.
Five of these sheets have indications on the back in pencil of the reproduction of one of the four images, those of Brauner.
The café Au brûleur de loups on the Vieux-Port (which Brauner calls Brûleurs des loups in his captions) was the meeting place of the surrealists who had taken refuge in Marseille. There, playing a game suggested by one of them, they drew a new set of tarot cards.
These six cards, each illustrated with four original drawings, are part of these same games, in the manner of square exquisite cadavers.
