Almanach du Père Ubu illustré (January-February-March 1899).
Paris, undated [1898].
In-16: red calf with corners, spine with gold and cold decoration, untrimmed, gilt head (binding around 1920).
Rare first edition: it is illustrated by Pierre Bonnard.
L'Almanach illustré du Père Ubu will have a unique sequel in 1901. Edited by Ambroise
Vollard, the second volume will contrast with the deliberately modest aspect of this first issue.
Autograph letter signed by Ubu on the cover:
To Andrey Lebé, omaje
Ubu
The author has also crossed out the word Almanach.
Close to Jean de Tinan and Paul Valéry, André Lebey (1877-1938) collaborated with the Revue blanche at the same time as Jarry. He later became a socialist activist and sat in the Assembly.
The catalogue of his library, dispersed in 1938, was prefaced by Paul Valéry.
