perhaps intended for the preparation of hallucinogenic potions during impositions ceremonies. It is dexterously modeled of an anteater with its body decorated with ceremonial paintings. Among the peoples of South America, the anteater is an animal associated with the fertility of the earth as well as the fertility of women. Its long snout is used to impregnate one or the other. This sensitively modelled work personifies the privileged link of this people with the animal world.
