In an envelope handwritten in pen: "Immortal flowers from the Longwood plateau and a branch from the oak tree in the Emperor's garden under which he had lunch. Reported by M.Octave Aubry. 1933. » Descent of the Dukes of Bassano. Octave Aubry, born on September 1, 1881 in Paris 4th and died on March 27, 1946 in Paris 6th, was a French historian and novelist. After his secondary education at the Lycée Voltaire and the Lycée Charlemagne in Paris, Octave Aubry attended the history classes of Albert Sorel, Albert Vandal and Anatole Leroy-Beaulieu before embarking on a career in letters, particularly historical novels. Along with Ernest Seillière, Jean Tharaud, René Grousset and Robert d'Harcourt, he was one of the five people elected on 14 February 1946 to the Académie française in the first group election of the year, which was intended to fill the many vacant places left by the Occupation. He succeeded Cardinal Alfred Baudrillart in the 8th chair. However, he died 41 days later, the day before he was due to present his acceptance speech to the Reading Committee. Edouard Herriot was elected the same year to succeed him.
