FRENCH SCHOOL OF THE EARLY 19TH CENTURY. Portrait of Nicolas Thérèse Gondallier de Tugny, in Neapolitan uniform, commander of the order of the Two Sicilies, officer of the Legion of Honour. Oval miniature on ivory. 52 x 43 mm. Circled with gilded brass decorated with foliage and stars. Hanging frame, veneered with lemon tree (small chip) with manufacturer's label "ROUX rue Croix des Petits Champs" B.E. About 1811 Biography : Nicolas Thérèse Gondallier de Tugny Chief of battalion in the 6th regiment of foot artillery, April 27, 1802. Major in the 2nd regiment of foot artillery, June 22, 1804. In Italy, 1805; then in the army of Italy under Masséna, 18051806. Colonel of the 5th regiment of foot artillery on July 10, 1806. In the army of Naples from 1806 to 1809. Authorized to pass to the service of Naples as brigadier general by imperial decision of December 31, 1809. Commander of the Royal Order of the Two Sicilies around 1811, Officer of the Legion of Honour in 1809. He was named Baron of the Empire by letters patent of 10 or 15 April 1812. The patronymic name "Gondallier" does not appear on the letters patent. (He was a donator (r. 4000) in Hanover on 15 August 1809.) He became a division general in the service of Naples on 27 June 1813, then commander of the Neapolitan artillery, then minister of War and the Navy in Naples. He resigned from the Naples service on 25 January 1814. He returned to France and remained unemployed and unpaid. Appointed commander-in-chief of the 9th Corps artillery under Brune on 15 April 1815. He left his command on the 10th August of the same year and retired to his home. Admitted to retirement as a marshal of camp on the 6th October 1815. Confirmed as marshal de camp in the service of France on 5 November 1816.
