Virgin and Child with St John the Baptist
Oval canvas 75 x 60 cm
Note:
Neapolitan painter, Piertro Bardellino trained with the painter
Francesco de Mura and then developed a freer touch by looking at the work of Corrado Giaquinto. He worked on major projects such as the ceiling of the pharmacy for the incurables (1750) and the ceiling of the Meridian Room in the Palazzo degli Studi (1781). In 1773, he was appointed director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples.
His painting is characterized by delicate glazing effects and a chromatic range of light tones applied in an atmospheric manner.
