Note:
A Piedmontese painter, Guala trained in his father's studio where he quickly acquired stylistic and chromatic freedom. This type of portrait marked by strong luminous contrasts is typical of the artist's production. Its freedom of tone and pictorial ease are reminiscent of Fragonard's fantasy fi gures.
