The young Louis XIV giving audience to the ambassadors
Pen and brown ink, brown wash 34,5 x 26 cm
Note :
Our study is preparatory to the drawing Ad Regem oratores, ardor remissus (he gives audience to the ambassadors) page 88 of Sylvain Bonnet's collection, Sol Gallicus. Apollo symbolizes the sun king. This large in folio contains 112 bistre drawings made from 1680 on the theme of an allegorical history of Louis XIV to whom the book is dedicated. The captions were calligraphed in 1720 by Venevault. The collection is kept at the Château de Versailles (inv. Vms 96 - Pl58).
