Large single in-8°. Publisher's full bishop's purple cloth boards. On the first cover, gilt iron of the Monastère de la Visitation de Rouen in the centre of a highly decorated oval motif. Second plate with macaron and cold frames. Spine highly decorated with the mention "Voyage/au centre/de la Terre". Gilt edges. Yellow lined endpapers. No mention of binder. Price label on the 1st endpaper bearing the date of August 10, 1871.
Illustrated first edition. Nice copy.
That year, Céline Bonière received this work as an "Honorary Prize". In fact, this prize also included Les Enfants du capitaine Grant, also in an illustrated EO and presented in an identical cardboard box, which we had in our hands recently...
