Corrected proof signed for Pierre Dupont 6 June 1861.
Marbled paper bradel booklet in-8 (V. Champs).
Some stains, spine rubbed.
Extensively corrected proof of the second notice on Pierre Dupont, signed on the first page by Baudelaire with his monogram. Intended for an anthology edited by Eugène Crépet: Les Poètes français, Recueil des chefs-d'oeuvre de la Poésie française (tome IV, Paris, 1862), it appeared in the Revue fantaisiste of August 15, 1861.
The two men knew each other and Baudelaire had already written a first "Notice sur Pierre Dupont", intended to be inserted as a preface to Chants et Chansons de Pierre Dupont (Paris, 1851). Especially laudatory, Baudelaire's text feels indulgent for the chansonnier: "I know that Pierre Dupont's works are not of a finished and perfect taste. [...] To conclude in a few words, he belongs to that natural aristocracy of spirits who owe infinitely more to nature than to art, and who, like two other great poets, A[uguste] Barbier and Madame Desbordes-Valmore, finds only through the spontaneity of the soul the expression, the song, the cry, destined to be eternally engraved in all memories."
