L.A.S. "Eug. Delacroix", Paris 18 September 1846, [to the Bordeaux architect Alexis ROCHÉ]; 2 1/2 pages in-4. About his brother's tomb, which he had commissioned Roché to execute at the Chartreuse cemetery in Bordeaux. He is happy that the tomb appears to him as they wished. "To my great regret I will not be able to go to Bordeaux. My health has been better this summer. I took advantage of it to advance some work which I can only work on during this season. However, I would have felt a sad satisfaction in paying these last duties to my best friend. You, Sir, who had already done so much for me, are willing to take my place in this circumstance [...]. I would be much obliged to you if the religious ceremony which usually accompanies these kinds of translations were not omitted: for I have been told that it could be dispensed with. On the contrary, I want it to be everything it should be. [...] The carriage of the bust had not actually been paid for in Paris: I thus thought that the transport would be more rapid. I was hoping to send you a small shipment these days, but I am forced to postpone it due to a small accident beyond my control"... Attached is the death notice of his brother Charles, baron Delacroix, Bordeaux, January 4, 1846, addressed to the painter and man of letters Jules-Joseph Arnoux, in Paris.
