He would have found pleasure in going to her invitation, if he had not spent the evening "with some old friends to bury the year"... February 1, 1840. Request to transmit to M. Bixio "my sincere thanks for his kind letter which gives me the greatest pleasure and which I am very sorry for"... Tuesday [1843 ?]. "I thank you for my Hamlet for what you think kindly of it: I find it very happy to please you"... February 2 [ca. 1845], apologies for Friday's dinner: "The remedy of seclusion has been successful for him since the beginning of the winter: he resigns himself to it despite the deprivation of the amiable society to which he sends his regards and expresses his regrets"... Sunday [ca. 1852-1855]. "I am going to stir up the last means of getting you the tickets that are being snatched up this time. The list has been closed for a long time, and it took me some intrigue to get some last Friday. The Commission eliminated a large number of them"... April 27 [1857 ?]. Convalescent, "always at the same point", he avoids any meeting: "After a few minutes of conversation, I am very tired. Only a prolonged reclusion can cure me"...
