Extremely rare document signed by one of the major artists of the early 16th century: Cranach the Elder acknowledges in it that he received a sum of money from the treasurer of his patron, Elector Johann-Friedrich of Saxony. "Ich Lucas Cranach beken mit diser meiner Hantschrift das ich von dem erbaren Sebastian Schad Kamerschreiber fun und zwainczig f[loren] kane mer Gelt empfangen hab auf Crucis im Herbst im drei und dreisigsten Jar &c."
Translation: "I, Lucas Cranach, acknowledge by this manuscript of mine, having received from the honorable Sebastian Schad, notary of the Chamber, 25 florins, not more than silver, on the day of the Feast of the Cross in the spring of the year 1533 etc."
