L.A.S. "Gaston Chaissac" with DRAWING, Vix (Vendée) [ca. 1962, to René MENDÈS-FRANCE]; 2 pages small-in-4 in blue ballpoint pen on squared schoolbook paper (one edge unevenly cut).
Beautiful letter illustrated with a drawing. "I hope that without delay the news will reach you that the gallery H. Legendre is inviting me to its group show on the theme of the box and its contents as a selected member of the Paris school. It is undoubtedly a good sign but too many good souls are growing old on me that my life is overly complicated and my interests hurt. A sort of arbitrary protectorate would be made necessary by my incompetence. I don't even react anymore. But my creative faculty seems to have remained intact. I am thinking of experimenting with my shepherd's limousine as a fetish and I have changed my style. Logic can lead to evil as well as fashion"...
The drawing at the end of the letter, occupying the lower half of the page (about 13.5 x 15 cm) represents a man with his arms raised who seems to be flying away.
