DUBUFFET Jean. 3 autograph letters signed to Roger Brielle. 13 May 1947, 18 February 1948, and 27 December 1953. 1 envelope kept. 3 pages and a half in-4 and in-8. "You are like the sultan who sends back full of gold, the jars he was offered full of oil. Your gift gave me great pleasure. These two books please me greatly, are greatly in my line. I have found in them the plan where the drawings in your letter of a long time ago took place, I mean the world where these drawings lived. A world full of vitality and mobility. Very exhilarating and invigorating, highly invigorating, not surreal for a penny (so much the better)." "It is sure that one gains a lot from changing material from time to time, a guitarist gains a lot from working on the flute for a while. I don't believe that exhibiting around André Breton commits one to anything (although he is said to be a bit tyrannical)." One of the autograph letters is written on the back of a proof for "La Lande Dorée", a monogrammed 4-colour lithograph, dated 1953, 21 x 23.7 cm. /p> We would like to thank Déborah Couette of the Dubuffet Foundation for her help in writing this additional sheet.
