EXCEPTIONAL REGENCY STYLE WORK Large carved and gilded wood dolphin holder. The base is composed of three dolphins supporting another dolphin rolled up, forming a support for a console with a woman's head topped with an acanthus scroll supporting a conch. At the top, a round basin with a decoration of palmettes. Decorated with garlands of flowers, rows of ovals and acanthus leaves. It stands on a tripod base with six ball feet. Height: 168 cm. (Old restorations, small chips and gilding retouching). Provenance : castle of Ile de France. A large 19th century Regency-style wood torchiere holder carved with dolphins and a woman's face. An exceptional piece reminiscent of similar torchieres illuminating the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles. Our torchiere is a prodigious piece of sculpture, reminiscent of the suite of torchieres illuminating the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles.
