BEAUTIFUL PAINTING "EXIT FROM THE BATH" BY Gabriel GRIFFON (1866-1938)
Watercolor signed in the lower left corner.
49 x 64 cm
Born in 1866 in Toulouse and died in 1938
He realized landscapes in light tones, populated with numerous characters, reduced to a harmonious symphony of light spots. He presents in a caressing light subjects of gallant parties, rounds of bathers, meadows streaked with sun and populated with nymphs and fauns evoking mythology and the gallant scenes of the French School of the 18th century (Watteau, Lancret...)
An appreciated sculptor, working for a long time in Bordeaux, he then divided his life between Nice and Agen (his house at 17 rue Carnot became the Griffon Museum). The one who at the beginning was only a Sunday painter sees quickly increasing his reputation. We particularly appreciate the poetry of his watercolours where idyllic characters are profiled in an ethereal light.
