Christkind
Pen, grey wash heightened with white 11 5/8 x 7 1/2 in.
A drawing of similar technique and dimensions, depicting Christkind from a different angle, by Georg Petel in 1631 is now in the Bayerisches
Nationalmuseum in Munich (inventory number: 2014/34). The drawing was probably made in preparation for a sculpture that can be seen today in the
Barfüßerkirche in Augsburg. It could also be one of the first sketches made by the sculptor, who had not yet added the crown and orb to the Child at this stage of his work.
