The Emperor Napoleon I Pair of white silk stockings...

The Emperor Napoleon I Pair of white silk stockings that belonged to the Emperor, embroidered at the ankle of a stick with flower motifs. One of the stockings has a paper with a red wax stamp sewn on the top, with a handwritten inscription in pen "Pair of stockings of the Emperor Napoleon I which was given to me in Rome in March 1832 by his mother". Signed " Joachim Clary ". Length : 67 cm. Foot : 25,5 cm. B.E. (some small holes). There is a copy of a certificate with the heading Saint-Pierre du Gros Caillou " The pair of silk stockings worn by Joachim Clary was given to him by Madame Mother of the Emperor in Rome in 1832. Belonged successively to Armand Caire and to a lady... " Biography : Joachim Charles Napoleon Clary (1803-1856). He was the nephew of the Queens of Spain and Sweden, wives of King Joseph and Bernadotte. A student at the École spéciale militaire de Saint-Cyr (1819-1821), he then entered the army and served under the Restoration. He became captain of the Carabinieri and resigned (1831). In 1848, he was appointed lieutenant-colonel of the 1st legion of the Paris National Guard, and was seriously wounded during the June days. He was a member of the General Council of Seine-et-Marne, and was called to the Senate on 31 December 1852, and sat in the dynastic majority until his death. He was buried in the family vault in the Père-Lachaise cemetery.
