GUTTERY Gabriel de. La Camilletta di Gutterry clugnicese. In Parigi, after Gulielmo Giuliano, August 4, 1586. - La Priapea Al. Mag. Sig. L.D.M.M.D.C. No place, 1586; 2 works in one volume in-8 of 172 p., [1] f. (mark), one blank f.; 29 p., one blank f., old blue morocco binding, cold fillets on the boards, spine ribbed (Duru. 1849). First editions printed in Paris, in Italian, of two piquant and curious works. Émile Picot recalled how Guttery, from Cluny, had to take refuge in Italy where he studied in Padua. He dedicated La Camilletta to M. d'Alincourt, son of Neuville de Villeroy who was his protector. The Priapea (a conversation overheard by the author in Murano between Venetian courtesans) should be found afterwards but has been deleted in all copies found by Picot except one (this one?). Its rarity was such at the beginning of the 18th century that La Monnoye, despairing of finding one, took the trouble to copy it himself (Cf. Nodier's catalogue, 1844, n° 1017) and É. Picot Les Français italianisants, tome II, p. 259 and following. - Missing from Adams. A VERY GOOD COPY BY CHARLES FAIRFAX MURRAY, III, no. 2757.
