Precious collection of the 150 original watercolours, very finely painted in a wide variety of colours by the Lyon painter Edmond Lechevallier-Chevignard (1825-1902), which served as illustrations for this work on historical costume published under the direction of Georges Duplessis, then curator at the Imperial Library.
The watercolours are mounted on tabs and represent characters in English, German, Italian, Flemish, French, etc. costumes. Among many others, a superb equestrian portrait of Francis I, in ceremonial costume.
