The Musée national des arts asiatiques - Guimet in Paris is entrusting its 16th contemporary art carte blanche to the Chinese artist Wang Keping. From Nov. 23 to March 6, 2023, by 21 sculptures by the Chinese artist will appear in the 4th-floor rotunda and be set in dialogue with the permanent Chinese collections.

The photographer has died aged 79 in Beijing. He was known for documenting Chinese railroad passengers during the country’s transformative period in the late 20th century, taking over 4,000 train rides to capture the development from uniformity to self-expression in his fellow passengers. Starting the night of June 17, it includes a panel discussion around Frick’s project “Living Histories: Queer Views and Old Masters”. The series of free public evenings is supported by trustee Dr. Tai-Heng Cheng and his husband Cole Harrell. The evenings are designed by the Frick’s Education Department.

Commissioned by The Shed, Luma Arles, and LAS, Cheng’s new work is a new form of narrative animation, imagining how AI could transform the archetypal scripts that guide our lives. It draws on principles from video game design, improvisation, and cognitive science, and will tour until 2022. (eflux)

Wang has made a name for himself as an independent curator, boasting international curatorial credits at institutions such as the Nationalgalerie in Berlin and Whitechapel Gallery in London. He will direct the original contemporary art museum as well as its newly-inaugurated satellite space, the M Woods Art Community.
