The city of Kyoto will host a museum dedicated to the 130-year-old Japanese video game company in a former Nintendo factory by 2023. The institution will present the history of the brand, its products and its philosophy.

A sealed copy of Super Mario 64 sold on July 11th for $1,560,000 at Heritage Auctions in the US making it the most expensive video game in the world. It beats the world record set by a 1987 Legend of Zelda cartridge last Friday at the same auction house.

€730,000! That's the amount of The Legend of Zelda, a video game cartridge dating to 1987, sold for this Friday at Heritage Auctions in the US. It is an earlier version than the one that was produced on a large scale. The previous holder of the title was a Super Mario Brothers cartridge, which sold for €555,000.

Made by Nintendo, it is one of the best-selling games in history and continues to make headlines – this time at auction. A 1986 Super Mario Bros cartridge for NES (Nintendo Entertainment System), preserved in its original packaging, came under the hammer for the record-breaking price at Heritage Auctions in Dallas.

Mario Gooden, director of Mario Gooden Studio: Architecture + Design, has been appointed as the 63rd president of the Architectural League of New York, elected at its 141st Annual Meeting at the Harlem School of Arts. Yann Le Mouel will auction works by photography legends such as Cartier-Bresson, Robert Doisneau and Helmut Newton in a sale dedicated to modern and contemporary photography. Great South American photographers Mario Cravo Neto and Humberto Rivas are also in on the docket.

In 2014, the museum received 600 works - by Warhol, Baselitz and Kiefer in particular - from the collection of Mario Bertolini, who died in 2020. His sole heir is seeking to cancel this donation to the city of Milan, which is in charge of the institution, for failing to fulfill a contractual obligation.

ZACentrale opened in Palermo last October, hoping to serve the local community while also developing the city as a regional art hub. The most recent exhibition puts large-scale installations by Arte Povera artist Mario Merz alongside other contemporary works dealing with climate change and immigration. (Hyperallergic)
