Louis-Léopold Boilly (1761-1845)

In the spotlight until June 26 at the Cognacq-Jay Museum in Paris, the famous 19th-century portraitist Louis-Léopold Boilly (1761-1845) also features in a sale in Évreux on Sunday, July 3 with a pair of oils on canvas, with their original stretchers and frames, going for €5,000/10,000 (Évreux auction house saleroom).

It was featured on the cover of Millon's May 18 catalog. A pen, ink and pencil depicting Washerwomen and Water Bearers at the Fountain, circa 1800, won €58,500, from an estimate of €20,000/30,000. The artist is currently the subject of an exhibition at the Musée Cognacq-Jay in Paris.

Paul Touzet was one of France's most renowned post-war experts. The sale of part of his collection of paintings and drawings is an opportunity to pay him a well-deserved tribute.

The former Senegalese president's home, where he died in 2001, will open to the public for the first time, according to the wishes of his second wife, Colette, on the occasion of Heritage Days, the Verson town hall said. The couple spent their summers there since 1957, before moving there full time in the early 1980s.
